The love of Bidoof may have started as a meme, but now there’s an entire day celebrating the weak mouse Pokemon. And yes, Bidoof is a mouse. Not a beaver.

Bidoof Day is now official as of a few days ago. It was on July 1. But why?

What is Bidoof?

Bidoof is a normal type Pokemon, described as a “plump mouse.” Yes, it looks like a beaver. No, it’s not a beaver.

Bidoof first appears in the Sinnoh games. At first, players were enamored with the cute Pokemon thanks to its kind smile and big buck teeth. But players quickly learned that Bidoof is completely useless. It has terrible stats.

In response, the Pokemon community decided that Bidoof was now a god. Instead of Arceus, players decided to worship Bidoof. There’s a subreddit dedicated to his new godlike status. There are also YouTube videos all about Bidoof’s glorious uselessness.

In 2018, Pokemon noticed Bidoof taking over newsfeeds everywhere. The company decided to lean into the meme and put more Bidoof in Pokemon GO. They made a poll asking trainers to vote on a Sinnoh Pokemon to celebrate, knowing that Bidoof would be the answer.

October 22 became the first-ever Pokemon Appreciation Day, celebrating Bidoof. Trainers were encouraged to share pictures of Bidoof from Pokemon GO.

What is Bidoof Day?

Since Pokemon’s creators officially acknowledged the popularity of Bidoof, Bidoof has continued to be a beloved icon in the Pokemon community. July 1 became Bidoof Day. How do Pokemon fans celebrate this momentous occasion?

First, watch Pokemon’s video all about Bidoof.

Pokemon GO also had Bidoof raids throughout July 1. It spawned up in huge numbers everywhere. Players then took part in Special Research to get Bidoof-themed rewards.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Online, or PTCGO, had Bidoof bonuses for those who logged in that day. The Pokemon Center had Bidoof items for sale, including a plush.

Other companies got in on the meme as well, offering artwork and merchandise that was all about Bidoof. Some are still available now, including Mondo’s Bidoof wall art, which can be purchased until July 5.
