During BlizzCon 2019, Blizzard Entertainment announced Diablo 4. The newest installment in the series promises to be the best Diablo game to date, and to back this promise, Blizzard shared early footage of Diablo 4 gameplay.
The first change players can expect in gameplay is that Diablo 4 is an open-world game. The game won’t have a linear storyline but instead almost 150 dungeons and locations for players to explore.
It is the same world, but no two players will have the same Diablo 4 experience. The game includes robust character customization, allowing players to create the character of their dreams with five playable classes. Barbarian, Sorceress, Druid, Rogue, and Necromancer.
Players will encounter strongholds, enemy territory that players must reclaim and turn into friendly towns. To do so, players sometimes will require help from their friends. The game will have full cross-play between consoles and PC and a multiplayer or couch option for those that want to play together at the same location.
According to the developers, the goal is for players to build communities around Diablo 4. The game also has a PVP option, but being the best comes with a price. Top-performing players will get marked and become a literal targets for other players.
The developers are committed to expanding the universe in the years to come, adding new content to the game, like local events. These events pop up in the game, players can commit to them or simply keep walking.
As of November 2022, Diablo 4 is marked to be released in 2023. Blizzard is yet to confirm the exact date. Considering how ambitious of a title Diablo 4 is, the game is likely to come out late in 2023. Anything earlier than the Summer of 2023 seems unlikely. Â
