Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a game focused on building a character and making choices that impact how your character navigates the game. This includes picking a vocation for your character, which gives you certain strengths.

There are 10 different base vocations to choose from in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Each of them will help shape your gameplay in a way, so choose which one is right for you!

Starting vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2

There are just four starting vocations for your main character and main pawns. When you create your customer, you can also choose from these vocations:

  • Fighter – Focused on melee combat and excels with hand-to-hand weapons like swords and shields
  • Archer – Long-range focused, able to hit far-off enemies
  • Thief – Agile fighters that use light weapons like daggers and knives have the ability to steal loot from NPCs

Once you’ve played the game, you’ll find that there are advanced vocations you can select that are more powerful than the starting ones.

  • Warrior – Melee fighters that use two-handed melee weapons to deal more damage, wear heavy armor to reduce damage intake
  • Sorcerer – Magic users with advanced spells that take time to charge but deal devastating damage

How hybrid vocations work in Dragon’s Dogma 2

As your character advances, you are able to select hybrid vocations that will further strengthen certain types of gameplay. Here are the hybrid vocations that you’ll encounter later on in the game’s storyline:

  • Magic Archer – Archers that have magical arrows, able to provide long-range support with AOE attacks and healing spells
  • Mystic Spearhand – Effective at melee with the Duospear, which is powerful at all ranges, one strength is throwing objects and paralyzing opponents
  • Trickster – Use the Censer to cast smoke around an area of effect, creating illusions to confuse opponents
  • Warfarer – This well-balanced vocation can use abilities and weapons from all other vocations, making them very versatile but not as powerful as others
