Dignitas scores big upset win over Team Liquid, takes 1st in LCS
Dignitas took a chance against reigning LCS champions Team Liquid during the second week of the 2020 LCS Spring Split. It paid off, as the team pushed its record to 3-0 with a win to start its weekend.
Dignitas’ Henrik “Froggen” Hansen picked Orianna and whiffed multiple ultimates. That proved to be of no concern as Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen couldn’t carry the game for Liquid as Ryze. Both teams drafted strong compositions, but DIG eventually outsmarted TL.
Dignitas and Liquid go back and forth in 2020 LCS Spring Split
Just over five minutes into the game, Froggen and Jonathan “Grig” Armao outplayed Jensen to score first blood. DIG rotated for an early Rift Herald, safely taking it as Liquid lacked vision and was late to respond. DIG continued to play a safe game, working objective by objective.
Dignitas went into the mid game with two Dragons and four turrets, but no significant gold advantage. Though the team was making mistakes, Liquid couldn’t find ways to punish them. Team fights were looking awkward since both teams were scared to risk their assets.
But when Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen caught Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon in the bot lane, DIG was put in a dangerous situation. TL split the team up and rotated for a Baron kill, but Dignitas got a prize of their own by bursting down their fourth Dragon
As soon as Baron buff wore off, DIG was back pushing towards Liquid’s base. Jensen was using this opportunity to split push top and hit the 400-CS mark by the 35th minute.

Dignitas made the call to go for Baron while leaving Huni behind to deal with Ryze, but couldn’t commit and had to pull back in order to prepare for the Elder Dragon.
Liquid responded by taking the Baron for themselves, and each of the sides secured a different super buff. The game kept going front and back, until Liquid suddenly rotated, pushed, and took Dignitas’ inhibitors.
The game looked like it was over. DIG’s base was falling apart. But even then, Dignitas found a moment to respond, risking everything to take down Liquid. With the enemies down, they rushed to the other side of the map to secure the win.
TL had no means of responding and that one moment resulted in their Nexus getting taken down.
