DAMWON coach Zefa on facing G2: "I want my revenge."
DAMWON Gaming’s head coach Lee “Zefa” Jae-min wants to get his revenge over G2 Esports.
In the post-match press conference, coach Zefa made it clear that while it might be easier to face Gen.G, he wants to face G2 for a chance at redemption.
“Either opponent can be an interesting story. With Gen.G, one of the final slots will be guaranteed to LCK. For G2, we would get revenge from last year. Looking at the entire situation, Gen.G would be ideal but personally, I want my revenge,” coach Zefa said referring to G2’s victory over DAMWON is quarterfinals in Worlds 2019.
The last time these teams met, they were very different squads. G2 went to Worlds as the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational champion and the favorite to win. DAMWON qualified as the third seed and had to play through play-ins. This time around, he ttables have turned and DAMWON is the frontrunner for the title while G2 looked shaky in groups.
G2 is not an easy opponent, but DAMWON is ready for the next challenge.
“I think we changed a lot since last year. Even if we get to face them in semis, we will be able to take them down. Not because we learned a lot, but because of our growth throughout this year,” DAMWON mid laner Heo “ShowMaker” Su said.
DAMWON is confident it can take any opponent that comes next. The team is also confident on its individuals and how they match up against the other players in the tournament. However, DAMWON won’t get cocky about it.
“I don’t know [who the best mid lane is yet],” ShowMaker told the press. “I believe that the mid laner of the world champion winner will be the best mid laner in the world. That’s the most important task.”
ShowMaker recognizes that last year helped him improved, and also made DAMWON stronger.
“I think my champion pool a little. Watching Doinb lift the Summoner’s Cup and also after losing against Caps, I kind of learned something new. Last year, I think I played well and I got stronger and I killed the enemies. This year my mind set is I played well, I got stronger, my team got stronger and we can win,” ShowMaker said.
DAMWON must wait a little longer for its opponent
DAMWON is already planning its revenge over G2, but the team must wait before knowing its opponent in semifinals. G2 and Gen.G are playing on October 18 on the final series of quarterfinals.
