Avengers: Endgame to receive Fortnite crossover treatment
Avengers: Endgame to receive Fortnite crossover treatment
The Fortnite event to celebrate the upcoming Avengers: Endgame film might be bigger than anyone was expecting.
Weeks after data miners unearthed files that hinted something related to the movie was coming, Fortnite teased that its latest Avengers crossover event wouldn’t just revolve around the film’s antagonist. Epic Games released an image on the official Fortnite Twitter of one of the game’s characters holding Captain America’s iconic shield. The tweet teased an “Avengers X Fortnite” event starting on April 24 with the tagline of “Whatever it takes.”
No other information on the event was given but the event starts in just a few days.
Last week, a
deep dive
into Fortnite’s game files by Skin-tracker.com revealed a new death feed line that stated a player had “yielded to the POWER of Thanos.” This suggested that the Infinity Gauntlet mode added in 2018 for Avengers: Infinity War was set to return.
The Infinity Gauntlet game mode was a unique twist on the standard Fortnite battle royale game. The limited time offering allowed players to become Thanos in the game by finding the Infinity Gauntlet, which dropped in a random place on the map. This allowed them to rampage through the map until their death, which would then drop the Infinity Gauntlet and allow another player to do the same.
Though little information has been given on the Avengers X Fortnite game mode, honing in on Captain America’s shield does hint that something similar may be coming to the game. Because the teaser image focuses in on one of Marvel Comics’ most recognizable weapons, it feels very possible that the new game mode may follow the Infinity Gauntlet formula but with some differences, and possibly more characters being included. In the same way the Infinity Gauntlet transformed players into Thanos, finding the shield may turn them into Captain America. That could also work with items like Hawkeye’s bow, Thor’s hammer, and so on.
This is all speculation, but definitive answers are set to come in just a few days. Look for the update to drop April 24.
