Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reveals Silver rank in League of Legends
Alexandria “AOC” Ocasio-Cortez showed off the results of her effort to climb the ranked ladder in League of Legends on Twitter, proving that being a member of Congress will never stop a true gamer.
Ocasio-Cortez is a United States Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district who is known for being outspoken and not afraid to cause a stir. She also is a known LoL player, having picked the game up some years ago.
In October of last year Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that she was “dusting off” her League account, which was sitting in Bronze. She climbed the ladder from Bronze V all the way up to Silver IV, which is impressive for the constantly busy Congresswoman.
Although gamers are usually quick to speculate on the truthfulness of an important political figure such as Ocasio-Cortez when they mention their admiration for games, Ocasio-Cortez has consistently mentioned the game and has proven that she’s gotten better at it since she’s picked the game back up.
The reaction to the tweet has seen hundreds of offers to carry her through the ranks and later devolved into contemplations of who the congresswoman used for her main. Ocasio-Cortez had previously stated that she prefers three main characters: Morgana, Lux, and Miss Fortune but was working on learning another.
A number of notable players and teams offered to play with her, including Team Liquid bot laner Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng and Team SoloMid.
Fans are now left wondering how far she can get in Season 10 while also serving on Congress. She certainly has garnered the support of many fans throughout the LoL community and fans are curious as to just how far she’ll climb up the ladder when she finds time for games between the responsibilities of her burgeoning political career.
Ocasio-Cortez was a signature on a letter to Blizzard back in October when the publisher banned Chung “Blitzchung” Ng Wai for openly supporting the protests in Hong Kong. Blizzard was addressed by senators who represented opposite ends of the political spectrum. The letter blasted Blizzard’s immediate banning of the Hearthstone player, condemned the company for their actions, and requested an immediate reversal of course.
