Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, now dubbed Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, finally has an estimated release date.

The entire Final Fantasy 7 Remake experience has been about waiting. Ever since the initial PlayStation 3 tech demo from E3 2005 that planted the idea in fans’ heads, it’s been a matter of patience. That patience was rewarded in 2020 with the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake for the PlayStation 4, but fans were disappointed that the sprawling original was being chopped up into multiple parts.

Though there was no question whether a sequel was coming, fans were left to twiddle their thumbs for over two years before getting a definite answer. A new trailer was finally revealed as part of the Final Fantasy 7 25th Anniversary event. Alongside a number of other games, an estimated release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 and the new Rebirth dubbing were revealed.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will show part 2 of the remake in late 2023 or early 2024

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will come out in either Q4 2023 or Q1 2024, according to an estimated release date in the first trailer for part two of the remake series.

The first official trailer for the game stated the game will come out “next winter.” While fans would certainly love for it to come out before Christmas 2023, this could ultimately mean it comes out as late as March 2024. Either way, fans can sleep soundly knowing that it is definitely coming.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a smash hit but Square Enix didn’t invest much effort in DLC. Though another chapter may have performed well sales-wise, fans only got the FF7 Remake InterMISSION expansion on PlayStation 5 starring Yuffie. In interviews, developers have suggested this was partly because the team pivoted directly into the sequel.

Though this is technically part two of the remake, Tetsuya Nomura pitched fans on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth having an original story that would still welcome newcomers.

“Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is being designed so that people can enjoy this game whether they know the original game or not. In fact, new players might even enjoy starting their Final Fantasy 7 journey with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth…I believe that the scenes that [Cloud and his friends] witness after leaving Midgar will give players a fresh, new experience,” Nomura said.
