s1mple tells fans to "show some respect" after ZywOo criticism

Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev wasn’t happy with his viewers making fun of fellow Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut’s performance during Vitality’s matches during BLAST Premier’s group stage, and the Natus Vincere star let them know about it.

s1mple has come a long way since CSGO veteran Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas dressed down the young player on Twitter in 2016. Since then, s1mple has attempted to take the high road in some community matters, including players using racial slurs in CSGO’s matchmaking games. He also paused a live tournament so officials could fix a radar reflection that was giving him a competitive advantage.

He continued that trend on February 14 after the player was forced to lay down some tough love on fans.

s1mple, widely considered one of the best CSGO players in the world, took the time to explain to viewers how harmful their criticism could be, arguing that not only could fans harm a players confidence in the moment, but that they could also destroy it for the future. His comments came after many in his chat had criticized ZywOo after a 2-17 performance against Complexity the week earlier.

“You don’t need to trash talk [players],” s1mple said.

The Na`Vi star brought up one of his own games where he had played poorly to make the point. s1mple had one of the worst games of his career in December 2020 versus Astralis, finishing the game with a career low 0.79 rating.

It wasn’t just ZywOo who had trouble during Vitality’s first matches of 2021. All of Vitality struggled as it lost four out of five maps to a healthy Complexity and a surprisingly strong Evil Geniuses. Even with ZywOo’s 2-17 score during one of Vitality’s maps against Compelxity, ZywOo led his team as usual on the other four.

s1mple is set to play in Na`Vi’s own BLAST group stage matchups on February 13 and 14 as Na'vi tries to secure a spot in the tournament’s Spring Finals, but he had parting words for his chat.

“They put on a good show for you. Show some respect,” s1mple said.
