Looking to buy a gift for the gamer in your life? The season of giving may have just passed, but that doesn’t mean gamers won’t need the latest tech in 2021. The problem is, they are notoriously difficult to buy for.

After all, you can’t gift them a game because it’s quite likely that they already have it. And gifting components is equally impossible – you never want to mess with their kit.

The challenge is real, so we’ve rounded up a few suggestions that will surely bring a smile to any gamer’s face. These are also perfect additions to any set up so feel free to not wrap them and start using them this weekend.

1. The Latest in Noise-Canceling Tech

Gamers always appreciate a pair of noise-canceling headphones. Even if they already own one, a newer pair will often work better. Plus, they can always use another set for friends or guests (especially during a LAN), or while the one they already have is charging.

Depending on budget, some options are very over the top, or simply select a more modest model. Also consider the mic option and whether they would like it plain or colorful to the max.

2. A Gaming Bed

Never heard of a gaming bed? It’s a Japanese invention that moves gaming sessions from a comfy chair into an even comfier bed. Imagine playing Dota 2 or Cyberpunk 2077 from the comfort of a bed, under the covers! Okay, maybe not games with that amount of technicality.

It’s even possible to invest in a cooling mattress. This nifty thing should be more than enough for gamers get that much-needed rest after a day (and/or night) spent on a virtual battlefield.

3. A Switch, or Maybe a Sega Genesis Mini

Just because a gamer friend might prefer to play on their mammoth PC doesn’t mean they wouldn’t appreciate a session every now and then on a smaller (maybe a bit more vintage) handheld device.

The Nintendo Switch is great for gaming on the go, and it can be a bit more of a relaxing device, as opposed to a full-on, hardcore gaming platform. In fact, Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion 3 are the perfect games to play from a gaming bed.

The Sega Genesis is also a great alternative, especially if they’re a fan of old-school games. Check with them first, however, to make sure that they don’t already own a Switch or a Genesis.

A VR platform or the PS5 are also great options. They’re “up there” in terms of price, however, so consider a simpler platform if these are out of the budget range.

4. A Pre-order

“Don’t buy them a game” is solid advice mentioned previously. But that didn’t technically include pre-orders.

2021 promises to be an incredible year in terms of games (as long as nothing like Cyberpunk happens again). There’s the new Halo, a new Resident Evil, a new Horizon – and a promising horror game called The Medium.

Dying Light II is also set to appear, so gamers might want to check that out, as well as Sons of the Forest. Not to mention Far Cry 6-0. There’s plenty of options, depending on the kind genre this particular gamer prefers.

And of course, there’s Hogwarts: Legacy, but that may be more for fans than gamers; that remains to be seen.

5. A New Mouse/Keyboard/Mousepad/Etc.

It’s always nice to get a new mouse or a new keyboard, especially if the old one has seen better days but they haven’t quite reached the stage where they’re ready to invest in a new one.

Check what kind of mouse and keyboard they actually like before purchasing something like this. There are a surprising amount of options in this category and gamers often prefer a particular style or brand.

Other items in the same sort of category – like speakers, microphones, chargers, battery chargers, storage units, and so on – are also a good option. But again, make sure to check for compatibility.

6. A Subscription

Finally, try getting them a membership or a subscription box. There are dozens of them out there that are really good, so finding something that will suit the gamer’s taste won’t be too difficult.

If not too sure, there’s always the Switch, Playstation, Steam gift card they can use at their own pleasure and discretion.

Wrap Up

There you have it – a list of practical yet fun gifts you can give to your favorite gamer this season. And you can treat yourself to one of these items as well, as there is nothing like the gift of giving something to yourself, is there?

Let’s hope that 2021 is a year of superb games, some incredible gameplay, and that the tech we so love will become not only better but also less expensive.

Let us know what you would like to buy or get in 2021!
