Former Fnatic coach Jumpy finds new home, joins North

Danish Counter-Strike: Global Offensive organization North has brought in Jimmy “Jumpy” Berndtsson as its new head coach. Jumpy will replace outgoing coach Torbjørn “mithR” Nyborg, who has coached North for the past year.

In a statement on the North website, Jumpy stated he is excited by the potential within the team:

“I’m super excited about the opportunity to come and coach a team like North. With the amount of inherent talent that lies just beneath the surface, I think, it is just a matter of time before we can really unleash the full potential,” he said

Christian Engell, performance coach at North, also welcomed Jumpy and praised the experience he brings to the team. He isn’t just talking up his team’s new hire, either.

Jumpy has been a free agent since splitting off from Fnatic in September 2019, where he served as head coach for three years. During his tenure with the Swedish organization, he helped the team win several notable tournaments including IEM Katowice 2018, WESG 2017, and the PLG Grand Slam. The team also posted strong performances at events such as the ELEAGUE Atlanta Major and the PGL Krakow Major during his tenure.

This change at the head coach position comes after a rebranding in January where North deleted their entire social media presence, sparking rumours that the organization had collapsed. Many were disappointed when its dramatic return wasn’t accompanied with any other changes to the organization.

North will be hoping Jumpy helps the team return to form after an up-and-down 2019. The team posted a handful of notable wins in live events, but stumbled badly in several tournaments. This has seen the team slide into the middle of the pack in the European region.
