Will original Harry Potter characters be in Hogwarts Legacy?

Hogwarts Legacy will give fans a brand new experience in the Wizarding World and players can’t help but wonder if original Harry Potter characters will appear in the game. 

The holiday season will see one of the most-anticipated RPGs of the year arrive on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. “Potterheads” will no longer have to endure random quizzes and sorting ceremony browser games to enjoy new content. Hogwarts Legacy is a complete package wizarding experience featuring all-new activities and quests. 

The trailer is already the third most-viewed video on the PlayStation channel, and hype will only build for the game moving forward. But will the likes of McGonagall, Dumbledore, and Snape be making an appearance 

Will Harry Potter characters be in Hogwarts Legacy?

Unfortunately, not many characters from the original Harry Potter franchise will make an appearance. 

Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 1800s, long before Harry Potter’s parents were even born. All characters that helped Harry save the Wizarding World will likely be absent, down to the deadly villain Voldemort.

According to the State of Play video, the villains of Hogwarts Legacy will be goblins and a cabal of dark wizards. There will be a variety of new characters introduced including both fellow students and professors.

Will Dumbledore be in Hogwarts Legacy? 

Dumbledore may appear in Hogwarts Legacy, but if he does he won’t be the same character fans are familiar with.

Players might suspect that a young Dumbledore will be a significant character in Hogwarts Legacy, similar to what was seen in the Fantastic Beasts series. The headmaster has lived many years, but it’d be impossible for the headmaster to appear in Hogwarts Legacy in any sort of leadership role. 

Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s and Dumbledore was born in 1881. Don’t expect the headmaster and his Phoenix in the principal’s office. Dumbledore was one of the oldest characters in Harry’s story, so it’s possible that he could appear as a child but anything beyond that wouldn’t make sense. 

Is Nearly Headless Nick in Hogwarts Legacy?

Nearly Headless Nick is shown in the trailer for Hogwarts Legacy, confirming that he will be in the game.

The resident ghost of Gryffindor Tower is likely to be one of the only characters from the original franchise to make it to Hogwarts Legacy. It’s not a surprise as the ghost of Nick is as old as the Wizarding World itself. 

Since he died in 1492, Nearly Headless Nick has been roaming the hallways of Hogwarts, spooking the students and sometimes befriending them. He also fraternized with the trio in Harry Potter and seemed pretty amicable in Hogwarts legacy as well. The ghost character may play a crucial role in solving the side quests in the game. 

Alongside Nearly Headless Nick, Professor Binns was likely shown in the trailer. Binns is the history professor of Hogwarts and is notable for being the school’s only ghost professor and for being its most boring teacher. While it wasn’t confirmed that Binns will appear, it seems likely.

Why is Harry Potter not in Hogwarts Legacy?

Harry Potter likely won’t be appearing in Hogwarts Legacy because it takes place about 100 years before he was born.

Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 1800s and will feature a new storyline that highlights new characters. The threat in Hogwarts Legacy appears less severe than Voldemort’s invasion of the wizarding world. The player character will be fighting off the witches, wizards, and Goblins with the help of a friendly teacher and two friends.

Who are the characters in Hogwarts Legacy? 

The player will be flanked by two new characters named Natsai Onai and Poppy Sweeting.

Sebastian from Slytherin appears to be another major character who will seemingly settle into a Draco Malfoy role, but nothing can be said for sure so far. 

Mythical beasts including Nifflers, Hypogriffs and Thestrals were shown. No mention of dementors was made, but similar creatures were spotted in the state of the play video. A teacher named Professor Figg will be helping the player solve quests. This teacher looked a lot like Remus Lupin, one of the Marauders and a short-lived Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.

The teasers confirm that Hogwarts Legacy is a genuine part of the Wizarding World and will boast the creativity and magic that fans expect. The game will release during the holiday season of 2022.
