Will Baki Hanma be part of Tekken 8? A Redditor convinced a good number of fans that this crossover is happening. We have the final answer to this question.
Baki Hanma is the main character of Baki the Grappler, a manga by Keisuke Itagaki that ran from 1991 to 1999. Baki the Grappler had multiple anime series, including sagas released in 2020 and 2021, that are available on Netflix.
Baki is a fighter who is on a journey to become the most powerful fighter in history. Eventually, Baki fights his father and is defeated. He continues to learn until he comes across an underground fighting arena.
Baki’s story shares some similarities with Jin Kazama’s story, the protagonist of the Tekken franchise. Jin is constantly antagonized by his father, and now, according to
the information released about Tekken 8, the father-son duo will finally clash.
It doesn’t come as a surprise that fans want Baki in the Tekken universe. Unfortunately, this will remain a wish.
Is Baki Hanma part of Tekken 8?
The short answer is no.
The speculation started after
a Redditor shared a fan-made trailer on the Tekken subreddit. The trailer shows a rendered model of Baki that could perfectly fit on the new Tekken 8 game. The trailer was published by a channel called “Hanmason.”
The quality of the video led people to believe that Baki would be part of the game and inspired others to create similar videos.
Ahead of the release of Tekken 8, Bandai Namco confirmed all the returning characters and Baki is not on the list. The Tekken 8 confirmed characters are:
Asuka Kazama
Jin Kazama / Devil Jin
Jun Kazama
Kazuya Mishima / Devil Kazuya
King II
Lars Alexandersson
Leroy Smith
Ling Xiaoyu
Marshall Law
Nina Williams
Paul Phoenix
Jack-8
Perhaps having two sons antagonized by their fathers is too much for a single franchise.
