VPN services are not only an excellent cybersecurity tool but can also be used to make gaming more entertaining. People use VPNs for gaming globally due to their countless benefits.

A VPN improves your gaming experience since it provides an extra layer of privacy and security by encrypting your online data. It can prevent DDoS attacks, lets you play games safely through public WiFi, and enables access to geo-blocked games, among other benefits.

Why do you need a VPN for gaming?

To understand precisely how a VPN can enhance your gaming experience, let’s look at some of its features and see how you can use them while playing online video games.

Access to geo-restricted games

Let’s say, for example, that you are based in the UK. Using a VPN can allow gamers from the UK to change their location to the US or any other country provided by the VPN service.

Now that you changed your location, you can access geo-restricted games in the UK. If you were banned from a game, you wouldn’t have access to it unless you changed your IP.

With a USA VPN, you can bypass the IP ban since it provides you with countless new IP addresses. If certain games are released earlier in other countries, you can also benefit from that early access by using a VPN.

Privacy and protection

Mobile online games are trendy, such as Candy Crush or Free Fire. You can use your VPN on your laptop and smartphone if you are traveling to hide your identity, making it safer to play these games on public WiFi networks.

VPNs keep your data private when you are on these unsafe connections. In turn, you will be able to play any online games safely.

It’s a great way of avoiding hacks or DDoS attacks. If other players want to disrupt your gaming experience, they will use a DDoS attack, which is when a targeted IP is bombarded with fake traffic to disrupt the connection. Your IP address is hidden with a VPN, preventing such attacks.

A VPN also helps combat swatting or online stalking. If someone is distraught with you in the game they can try to hack your online data, stalk you, or even send police to your location to harass you based on false claims once they know your location. This won’t happen if your identity and information are kept safe.

Get rid of lag and ping times

A ping time refers to the duration it takes for your data to be sent and received by a game’s server and your device. This is the leading cause of lag that can ruin your gaming experience, especially in shooters and massive online multiplayer games

The distance between your device and the game server can cause this. By using a VPN, you can connect to a server that is closer to the game server, reducing ping times and lag.

Gamers also experience bandwidth throttling. It occurs when you play video games or stream online. Basically, your internet service providers, ISP, slow down bandwidth to ease congestion on a network.

This happens randomly, but you may experience a slower internet speed while playing online games. But, with a VPN, your internet provider won’t be able to see how much data you are using and what for. This will prevent ISP bandwidth throttling.
