When is Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 coming out?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is one of the most hotly anticipated games in the world. But outside of the fact that the game exists and is under development, very little is known about it, including when it’s coming out.

Despite being more than two years removed from the initial teaser trailer that announced the game, Nintendo has offered few details regarding what’s coming in Breath of the Wild 2. This has many fans asking “when is Breath of the Wild 2 coming out?” with no real answer from the company.

There is still some information out there regarding the next Legend of Zelda title, as well as what state the game might be in. Here’s everything we know about when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is coming out.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is coming out in 2022

Nintendo has indicated that Breath of the Wild 2 will come out in 2022.

Updates about the game’s status have been scarce, but there’s no reason to think Nintendo will be forced to push it back for an extended period of time. It’s uncertain when Breath of the Wild 2 will come out in 2022, but odds are Breath of the Wild 2 will be coming out in the fourth quarter of 2022, likely around the holiday season.

For the sake of comparison, Elden Ring is another open-world action game that was announced at the same time. On November 4, FromSoftware released a gameplay trailer that shows a largely complete version of the game. Shortly thereafter this was followed by a closed network test that let players test out the game. Elden Ring is set to come out in February 2022.

While Elden Ring has had a full gameplay reveal and looks to be in the final stages of development, nothing has been shown to believe that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is in a similar state. It’s possible that Nintendo has the game in a workable state, but the publisher has several other major first-party and third-party releases lined up for the first half of 2022, so it may not feel the need to push Breath of the Wild 2 out any earlier.

January 2022 will see the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus while Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to come out by the end of March. Square Enix’s Triangle Strategy is also set to come out in March. The second quarter of 2022 is scheduled to see the launches of Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

It’s possible that Breath of the Wild 2 could be released suddenly, but it’s much more likely is the game arriving in the second half of 2022. Given the size and prominence that the game will have, something closer to the holidays is most likely for Breath of the Wild 2’s release date.
