What will the new Witcher game be about? Is Geralt involved?
A new Witcher game is in development at CDProjekt Red, but what exactly will the new Witcher game be about, and will Geralt be making an appearance?
Fans across the gaming space were excited to hear that a new Witcher game was in the process of being created when the Cyberpunk 2077 developer announced the latest Witcher installment was on its way. This would lead to a new chapter in the series, and possibly the first main Witcher game to not involve Geralt of Rivia as the main protagonist.
Will Geralt be in the new Witcher game?
It seems very likely that Geralt will appear in the new Witcher game, even if he isn’t the main playable character. The ending of the Witcher 3 and Geralt’s state at the end of that game depends on the decisions that the player makes throughout the campaign. There are endings in which Ciri, Geralt’s chosen daughter and Witcher protege, is implied to have died. Other endings see her ascend to great power. Geralt’s own ending is largely dependent on the player’s choice of a romantic partner for the grizzled Witcher.
There is one ending where Ciri is implied to have died and Geralt is last seen surrounded by monsters in the woods, but that less implies his death than an uncertain future. The promo image shows a witcher medallion buried in the snow that seems to depict a cat with pointed ears and whiskers scratched into its metal surface. Siri bears a cat Witcher medallion in the games, and has both a close and important association with snow, so it seems to hint towards Ciri becoming the game’s main protagonist for this new installment.
Should Ciri take Geralt’s place in the next game, it seems likely that the fan-favorite Witcher would appear at least a couple of times to catch up with his adopted daughter. Given that the developer takes deliberate effort to refer to it as a new saga, Ciri taking center stage seems likely.
