Gaming has developed away from local multiplayer. Now the main focus is either on online multiplayer experiences or story-driven single-player titles. Ideally, this gives players the best of both worlds.

That doesn’t mean that online games haven’t incorporated sprawling stories, though. With the advantage of it being based online, players can experience new content together. This has resulted in a long list of games that are effectively endless. Whether you enjoy playing table games online or looking for a new game to dive into, here are some great online games driven by great stories.

  1. Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact has a following of over 60 million and it’s easy to see what has made this action game so popular. Not only is it free to play, making it easily accessible, but the storyline is fun and the creators release regular updates to the game.

The story follows the Traveler who is journeying across seven nations on the hunt for their twin sibling who was lost in a battle against evil forces. They need to traverse a vast world with a load of interesting and fun characters in order to track them down.

  1. Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves allows you to buddy up with up to four of your friends and take to the seas. Set sail as a pirate and work together to fight off enemy ships. The game requires more coordination than you’d think, so decide amongst yourself who is going to be running what part of the ship.

One person can sail, another can be in charge of the cannons, and the other can oversee patching up damaged areas. The high seas are never the same twice, so expect a new experience every session.

  1. Sky: Children of the Light

Another online game, Sky: Children of the Light has a sweet storyline for the player to follow. Its graphic design, music, and atmosphere make it relaxing and fun to play.

Your job as one of the children of the light is to look for the stars that fell out of the sky a long time ago and restore them to their rightful place. Only when you do this will you be able to return the once-lively kingdom to its peaceful and prosperous state. Although you can play a lot of it yourself, you may need to ask for help in some areas from other players. You can fly across the different locations together, retrieving candles and restoring light for the ancestors who have been forgotten.

  1. Red Dead Redemption 2

The single-player experience of Red Dead Redemption 2 is strong, but the online world is just as impressive. You’ll never run out of things to do in the online world with its regular updates, and fun experience of creating your own character from scratch.

Playing as Arther Morgan had its perks, but playing as an entire character of your own creation makes for a different experience entirely. Traverse the map and decide whether you want to take on bounties, help people for the sake of being friendly, or go the opposite way and be a nuisance just because you can.
