Battling in Pokemon GO is all about exploiting the opponent’s weaknesses and some Pokemon are easier to deal with in this regard than others.

One of the harder ones is Garbodor, which isn’t a Pokemon that is seen very often. When running into Garbodor in either raids, battles, or gyms, it can be a struggle to win if you don’t know which Pokemon types to use. Garbodor is a poison type, which is a rather uncommon type with weaknesses that fall outside the most commonly used types. To learn more about how to handle Garbodor, let’s take a look at some of its weaknesses and best counters.

What Pokemon type is Garbodor?

Garbodor, the trash heap Pokemon, is a poison-type Pokemon that was introduced in generation five’s Unova region. In Pokemon GO, Garbodor and the many other Unovan Pokemon were introduced in September 2019. Garbodor isn’t the most coveted Pokemon in the game, with a relatively low ceiling when it comes to CP. With that said, Garbodor is a decent situational option for raids and gym battles, and worth considering in PvP battles.

What types are good against Garbodor?

As a poison-type Pokemon, Garbodor does well against the grass and fairy-type Pokemon. This makes Garbodor good against a lot of Pokemon, as grass is a fairly common type. It also gives Garbodor an edge in niche matchups against fairy-type Pokemon such as Clefable, Granbull, and Togekiss.

What are Garbodor’s weaknesses?

Looking at weaknesses, Garbodor isn’t the hardest Pokemon to counter but it may call for using some Pokemon that aren’t go-to options. If Garbodor shows up in a raid or a gym, it’s crucial to pick either psychic or ground types to take it down. For Pokemon GO, this makes Mewtwo the best option against Garbodor. Mewtwo is one of the strongest attackers in Pokemon GO and psychic moves such as Confusion and Psystrike will be able to melt through Garbodor without a problem.

Other options to counter Garbodor are Alakazam, Espeon, Latios, Azelf, and Metagross. All these Pokemon can learn psychic moves and will be great for beating Garbodor. Metagross is especially effective as his psychic moves are super effective against Garbodor while his steel-psychic typing makes him doubly resistant to poison attacks.

If psychic Pokemon isn’t the way to go, then ground types can also do the job. Moves like Mud Slap, Mud Shot, and Earthquake all spell doom for a Garbodor. Many Pokemon learn these moves but Groudon, Rhyperior, Garchomp, and Excadrill are some of the best options, with Excadrill having a defensive advantage as well.

Is Garbodor a good Pokemon?

Looking at the stats in Pokemon GO, Garbodor isn’t considered a strong Pokemon. There are other poison types in the game that perform way better and can reach a higher CP. Garbodor still has some strengths in the PvP leagues, because there is a CP limit for every Pokemon. Depending on the league, Garbodor can work in the GO Battle Leagues.

Looking at raids and gyms, Garbodor won’t be the best option when in need of a poison-type Pokemon. Gengar, Venusaur, Roserade, Vileplume, and even Muk are all better options in terms of CP obviously Garbodor may be an option depending on what moves other poison types know.

What does Garbodor evolve into?

Garbodor is the last in its evolution line, which means that Garbodor can’t evolve. Garbodor is the evolution of Trubbish, which evolves at level 36. Garbodor does have a unique Gigantamax form, but that mechanic hasn’t been added to Pokemon GO yet.
