Giovanni is the Team Go Rocket, and during Season 10, Rising Heroes, the chances to encounter him are higher. This is a challenge that will put your skills to the test, and we’re here to assist you with the best Giovanni counters in Pokemon Go.

Giovanni is the most difficult opponent you can face in Pokemon Go. Getting to him is a big challenge in itself. Before reaching Giovanni, you must go through Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra. They will hand you pieces of a super radar, which is used to locate Giovanni.

Unlike other Team Go Rocket opponents, Giovanni doesn’t specialize in one type of Pokemon. The team needed to face him must meet specific criteria to survive all three of Giovanni’s Pokemon.

Giovanni will start the battle with the Pokemon he’s best known for, Persian.

Persian is a Normal type and is weak against Fighting type. The best counters to Persian are:

  • Hariyama
  • Machamp
  • Breloom

Regardless of what option you choose, it must have Counter as a Fast Move and a Fighting type charge move.

Once you defeat Persian, Giovanni will send out one of three Pokemon. Nidoking, Cloyster, or Garchomp. Because we don’t know which opponent we’re getting, the best strategy is to pick a Pokemon that could work against all three at some capacity.

Garchomp and Nidoking are weak against Ice type. Glaceon, Mamoswine, and Avalugg are good alternatives against these two. The Fighting type from the first round can do some damage against Cloyster.

The third and final Pokemon on Giovanni’s team is Shadow Registeel, a Legendary titan from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Once again, Fighting Pokemon have the advantage.

Conkeldurr and Lucario are two of the strongest Fighting type Pokemon in the game. Keep in mind that Registeel is the strongest Pokemon on the team. Having at least two Pokemon alive at this point is the key to winning the battle.

To defeat Giovanni, the team must have a combination of Fighting and Ice type Pokemon.
