Teamfight Tactics fans have a lot to be excited for.

The beta season of TFT’s ranked matchmaking is ready to kick off with patch 9.14. Speaking in an announcement on the official League of Legends website, the company offered a release date and outline of how the game’s hierarchy will work.

The new ranked mode is going live on July 17. It will have the same tiers and divisions as the standard League of Legends experience, ranging low-level Iron to the top Challenger tier. Rank will still be determined by League Points, but they won’t be handled the same way.

Finishing a TFT match in first place will earn the player a sizable chunk of LP. Players will still gain some LP if they finish in the top four, but will lose some if they finish fifth place or lower. The developers stated that this is because they didn’t want TFT to utilize the same ranked system due to the importance of RNG in the game.

Additionally, there is no promotion series as the developers believe it won’t translate well to a mode that has no single winner or loser. A promotion will happen once a player achieves 100 LP, while losing LP when a player has 0 will result in a demotion.

Players will be able to climb the ladder more rapidly as a result, so TFT’s ranked mode will have different premade ranked restrictions. Premade teams of five will be possible if everyone is Gold or lower, while only a premade team of three will be possible for those ranked Platinum and above.

TFT Beta Pass is also available with new weekly challenges and rewards. The pass might receive various changes in the future but the developers have stated they don’t plan on giving out XP or Blue Essence for this mode yet.

The current plan is to have a new ranked season every few months, but this is also subject to change depending on players’ feedback. There’s no final decision on seasonal rewards yet, but they are likely to be similar to the regular ranked rewards.
