Ever wanted to play a video game where you’re a cat? Well, Stray might be a perfect fit and the game now has a possible release date to go alongside the gameplay footage that’s already been shown.
Since it was first announced, gamers have been anxiously awaiting a release date for Stray and one may have just been leaked. Here’s what the game is all about.
What is Stray about?
Stray is a game that puts the player in the paws of a stray cat trying to make it on the streets.
A stray cat has been separated from its family and now they must traverse a mysterious, forgotten city to reunite with loved ones. Along with a drone known as B12, the cat must use its unique feline capabilities to survive various threats, solve puzzles, and uncover an ancient mystery.
What is Stray’s gameplay like?
The initial announcement for Stray was shrouded in mystery, showing a cat wandering around a lonely, robot-inhabited city. But gameplay videos have since been released, giving more insight into what the game is actually like.
In Stray, players control a cat and see the world from its point of view. Using the cat’s various skills, players can solve different puzzles and mysteries around the city. This includes jumping to high-up locations and pushing things off of ledges.
With the help of the drone, players can interact with the robot inhabitants of the city and collect useful items that can be added to an inventory. The cat also gains abilities from friendly robots to better ward off danger.
What has cat lovers even more excited about Stray is the fact that this isn’t just an action game with a cute protagonist. Between the scary encounters and puzzle-solving, you’ll be able to do cat-like things like lapping up water and scratching furniture. As a cat, you also won’t really understand the other characters or any writing in the city, creating a sense of isolation and loneliness.
“Obviously this place is supposed to be at least unwelcoming,” producer Swann Martin-Raget said in an interview with Edge earlier this year. “This is why we also developed an alphabet for the whole language for the game, to have players really feel that they don’t understand this place and they don’t get all the codes of this environment.”
What is Stray’s release date?
Stray is set to come out on July 19, 2022 according to the PlayStation database.
Stray has long been said to come out in 2022 but that’s the only official timeframe that’s been given to anxious cat lovers and indie gamers alike. A recent leak has pointed to a possible release date for Stray. A PlayStation leaker found that a recent update to the console revealed Stray’s possible release date in its database. According to Game Size, Stray may be coming out July 19, 2022.
It’s possible that this date is just a placeholder, but it does coincide with a previously rumored release of summer 2022.
What platforms is Stray on?
BlueTwelve Studio has confirmed that Stray is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
It’s currently unclear if Stray is coming to Xbox consoles or Nintendo Switch. The games may effectively be PlayStation exclusives but a timed exclusivity arrangement may also be in place.
