Is a PS4 worth buying in 2022? The best prices and games
Is a PS4 worth buying in 2022? The best prices and games
Buying a PlayStation 4 in 2022 is a better idea than it sounds due to its cheap price and excellent library.
With the PlayStation 5 out and easier to find than it used to be, many gamers are wondering if the upgrade is worth it. This is because the PlayStation 4 is both easier to find and is still seeing many major releases including Elden Ring.
On the bright side, there are tons of people looking to sell their PlayStation 4 to afford the newer system. Gamers on a budget should consider the older generation for its well-aged catalog and very cheap price.
PS4 release date makes the price super cheap
The original PlayStation 4 came out in 2013 during the holiday season in most regions but didn’t land in Japan until February 2014. The PlayStation 4 Slim and Pro models came out in late 2016. Sony plans to continue support for the PlayStation 4 until 2023.
The PlayStation 4 Slim is a more compact version of the console with the same performance specifications as the original. The Pro model has advanced processing capabilities and can run several games at 4K resolution.
Sony currently lists the MSRP of the
PlayStation 4 Slim at $300. The company no longer sells the device directly, so fans will most likely need to search the secondary market from retailers including GameStop. Secondhand prices for the PlayStation vary from region to region, but buyers should expect to pay around $250 for the console, cables, and at least one controller. Sellers could also be willing to part with games, accessories, and extra controllers for a cheap price.
PS4 is worth buying in 2022 thanks to its many great games
Gamers previously made fun of the PlayStation 4 for its relatively small catalog, but now that the console has had its run, there are a ton of great games to pick from. Listed below are just some of the PlayStation-exclusive titles available on PS4.
- Bloodborne
- Final Fantasy VII Remake
- Ghost of Tsushima
- God of War
- Gran Turismo Sport
- Horizon: Zero Dawn
- Marvel’s Spider-Man
- Persona 5
- Ratchet and Clank
- Shadow of the Colossus Remake
- Street Fighter V
- The Last Guardian
- The Last of Us Part 2
- The Last Of Us Remastered
- Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
- Until Dawn
These are the chief games to consider for buying a PS4 in 2022. Some of these titles are available on PlayStation 5, PS3, and PC, but that actually works to the PS4’s advantage. Several game developers are still creating games for the older PlayStation alongside the newer one. This means that for the next couple years, the PS4’s catalog of games will continue to grow.
And of course, there are loads of great games that aren’t exclusive to the PlayStation that can be played on PS4. Games like Dark Souls 3, Yakuza 6, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and DOOM Eternal all have a lot to offer.
