Roblox dev is facing two life sentences after kidnapping a minor
A Roblox dev is allegedly facing two life sentences for kidnapping a minor.
A Roblox dev, Arnold Castillo aka Jadon Shedletsky, was placed into custody in May, according to a YouTuber named Ruben Sim. The man was allegedly a publicly known predator in the Roblox community, ultimately leading to him attempting to meet a 15-year-old girl.
According to a follow-up video by Charles “MoistCr1TiKaL” White, the man is now facing two life sentences. Leading up to his arrest, Roblox apparently didn’t do much to deal with the known predator working within their company.
What happened to the Roblox dev who got arrested for kidnapping?
In 2017, Castillo was in the early stages of creating a Sonic Simulator for Roblox. The game was growing a pretty big community, but the Discord was full of toxic behavior and members saying sexual things about minors, including Castillo himself. He even went as far as to privately message underaged Roblox players.
“I’m apologizing for the things I’ve said. Moving forward, I will not have this behavior,” Castillo said eventually. “My sense of humor has always been very harsh — dark humor, if you will. But I had no intentions on moving on any of the things I said.”
Castillo added, however, that one of the victims, a 12-year-old, was wrongly “claiming to be an angel.” He accused her of seeking attention.
A lot of the frustration at the time, however, was aimed at Roblox. People were frustrated that developers were seemingly not responding appropriately to child predators being in the community and interacting with minors in the game.
Why was the Roblox dev arrested?
In 2022, people reached out to YouTuber Ruben Sim to say that Castillo hadn’t been active on his Discord. Some wondered if he had died. Turns out, however, that Castillo had been arrested by the FBI.
Earlier, Castillo had taken interest in a 15-year-old girl on the Discord server. He sent her a large amount of cash so she could take an Uber across multiple states to get to his home with the intention of having sex. When the teen went missing, her mother reported her disappearance to the police and accused Castillo of kidnapping her after seeing their online interactions.
“Can you just imagine a world where Roblox actually takes pedophiles seriously and he’s never in a position to pay an Uber driver to transport a child seven hundred miles away to be with him? That is entirely on Roblox’s plate right there. That is entirely their f—ing fault. This could have been squashed two years prior,” Moist said.
Roblox has long been accused of not having a safe environment for minors. Castillo is unfortunately not the first developer to be accused of inappropriate behavior. There is currently a list of “controversial users” but this doesn’t include the more disturbing cases within the Roblox community.
