After years of waiting, God of War fans have a definite release date for upcoming sequel God of War Ragnarok.

The God of War 2018 reboot hit almost every note that fans wanted, and now Santa Monica Studio has finally confirmed the release plan for the game’s sequel. A new cinematic trailer shows Kratos and Atreus fighting through a wasteland before encountering another Norse legend. The game will release before the holiday season on both generations of PlayStation.

The release date for God of War Ragnarok is November 9, 2022. The date was revealed in an official trailer released early on June 6.

The brief trailer depicts the father and son fighting through a frozen wasteland against draugr and other enemies from the first game. After a fall down a cliff, Kratos reunites with Atreus. The pair then stare down a giant wolf, which could represent the mythical Norse monster Fenrir.

Anticipated villain Thor did not appear at all in the new trailer, though previous promotional material confirms that Thor will make an appearance in God of War Ragnarok. Kratos’ mission, Thor’s revenge, and Atreus’ secret identity should all be expanded upon in the new title. Considering Loki’s relationship with Fenrir in the original myth, the game may have a clever explanation for the encounter shown in the latest trailer.

God of War Ragnarok confirms release date, platforms

In addition to confirming the intended release date, the new God of War Ragnarok trailer also confirmed which platforms the game will release on when it comes out on November 9, 2022.

As expected, the game will launch exclusive to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 5. Both generations of Sony consoles will get physical and digital releases of God of War Ragnarok on November 9.

  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 5

As a PlayStation exclusive title, God of War Ragnarok will not be released on Xbox or PC at launch. Based on how the first game was ported to the PC via Steam in 2022, it’s possible that Ragnarok will get a proper PC port sometime later. For now, gamers will have to play God of War Ragnarok on a PlayStation console.
