PUBG partners with Capcom for Resident Evil crossover

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has another big collaboration in the works.

Just a few weeks after partnering with DC Comics and Warner Bros., PUBG is teaming up with famed game publisher Capcom for a special event to promote the launch of the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake. The promotion will make use of the PUBG Mobile app, and was revealed with a short teaser on the game’s official Twitter account.

Details regarding the event are scarce as of this writing. It is currently unknown what new content will be made available, and whether it will be exclusive to PUBG Mobile or also made available on PC. The PUBG Mobile Twitter account confirmed the news, but offered no further information on it.

The last such collaboration, based around 2016 superhero movie Suicide Squad, only delivered a pair of skins based on the Joker and Harley Quinn. Though Resident Evil 2 could easily serve as a base for zombie-themed game modes, it could also just be the basis for another set of limited edition in-game items based around such famous characters as Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy.

Regardless of what exactly will be released, this is the latest chapter in what has been an expanded effort by PUBG Corp. to deliver licensed content to the battle royale game. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds still has a long way to go before matching its chief rival Fortnite. Epic Games’ popular creation has notably featured a game mode based on The Avengers: Infinity War movie and skins from every team in the NFL.

There is not yet an official start date for the PUBG and Resident Evil event. Players can likely expect it to happen before the Resident Evil 2 remake launches on January 25, 2019.
