Overwatch League announces new system for players to earn tokens
Overwatch League announces new system for players to earn tokens
The Overwatch League has finally announced the return of tokens, the currency used to buy various special skins in the game, most notably those of OWL teams.
The news was broken by Mitch “Uber” Leslie in an animated video about how to score free OWL tokens. Starting May 22, viewers will be able to earn tokens each hour by watching matches through the OWL website, or the OWL mobile app. Players cannot receive tokens by watching directly on YouTube Gaming, and must do so through the Overwatch League’s dedicated platforms.
Fans wishing to gain free tokens must log in with their Battle.net username and password, and then view the matches. Each hour, five tokens will drop and will be added to the viewer’s Overwatch account.
Those who do not watch for an entire hour can be assured that the time is cumulative. This means that fans can watch a half an hour on one day and after a half an hour the next time to receive five tokens.
The tokens can be used as soon as an hour of viewing time is achieved. These tokens are also able to be used on all Overwatch game platforms, which includes consoles. Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Playstation 4 players must have their respective accounts linked to their Battle.net account. In order to link an account from a console, Blizzard points to the support page on their website.
Unfortunately for fans in China and certain other territories, token drops are not enabled.
Fans have been begging for token drops since the switch to YouTube at the start of the season. Blizzard had said something was in the works, but the season went on without them until now. Token drops are starting on the same day the May Melee tournament starts, on May 22.
