Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has reacted to the potential leak regarding the next champion to be added to the game, champion 31. He cryptically addressed the leak in an interview with former Overwatch League pro player Brandon “Seagull” Larned.

The leak occurred on the Twitter profile of the Mexican Overwatch World Cup team. The tweet included an image which appears to show the career stats and the spread of time played on different champions for a player named Jumpywizard. The champion with the most played time is named Sigma, a champion not currently available to play in the game.

In a later tweet, Team Mexico claimed to have taken the photo from a Mexican blog about Overwatch where the photo had since been removed in the time between tweets.

In the interview, fans in the stream’s chat were demanding an answer to the leak regarding the mysterious Sigma. Kaplan was cryptic in his response, not giving away any more information, but at the same time not denying the existence of the new champion. He went on to promise a  “big week” for the game.

“That’s a mystery to me, that sounds really cool. And by mystery I mean it’s not a mystery at all, there’s lots of exciting things coming this summer. This is going to be a really dramatic week for Overwatch I think.”

The image only shows the name and a small profile picture of a man with gray hair, but this seems to be the next champion expected to be added to the game.

The Overwatch League has already confirmed the implementation of the 2-2-2 role lock. It is unclear as to whether there are more changes coming or if Kaplan was just referring to these two. At time of writing it is unknown when the champion is due to be released.
