Our 1-year review of Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition headset

Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition Review

Kraken BT Kitty Edition is the wireless Bluetooth version of Razer’s popular Kraken gaming headphones, except this set is criminally cute.

Headphones often come last for casual gamers who are more into story-driven or open-world games. However, first-person shooters are all about scouting, sound, and movement. Missing a single footstep could transform a leisurely victory into a wretched loss.

So for FPS gamers, headsets are just as crucial as a good mouse. Most headphones have a similar “hardcore gamer aesthetic” that may clash with your PC theme. The Razer Kraken Kitty BT Edition is a step in the right direction as it introduces a unique pop of quartz instead of the usually muted tones of gaming hardware.

Our Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition review comes after one year of use

After rolling out comfortable models for all, Razer introduced a pink kitty edition of its flagship Kraken gaming headphones, becoming a go-to for many. Razer’s Kraken BT Kitty Edition is unlike any other headset. It’s comfortable, durable, affordable, and pink. At $119, Razer is selling a headset with a built-in mic, clean audio, and cute kitty ears. Its fixed ears may be annoying for some, but its light weight and portability cover up the minor flaw.

Razer has built a cult following over the years with its cutting-edge gaming paraphernalia. The brand’s tech equipment has been lauded for its longevity and comfort. But Razer’s kitty headset is not all perfect. The Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition has a few cons, and our review will explore the positives and negatives in detail.

Pros Cons
Unique quartz color  Kitty ears aren’t detachable
RGB kitty ears Passable microphone
Clear audio No 3.5mm audio output
Decent Bluetooth range
Lightweight

Who should buy Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition?

Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition Review

Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition is a complete package. It checks all the boxes to be your go-to gaming headset, but it’s clearly not meant for all gamers. If you want aggressively cute headphones with crystal-clear sound quality, then the Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition is your best pick.

The Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition is too good to be labeled as the “gamer girl” headset, which it was initially called. The pink aesthetic, kitty ears, and RGB immediately attracted “the e-girl headset” label but the product is much better than that. The headset is clearly meant to have a distinct look, but it also offers sound quality and comfort. After using the Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition for one year, it comfortably holds up as one of the best portable headsets for gamers.

The Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition is unbelievably light for all the heavy-duty features it offers. It’s made from plastic but feels premium to the touch. The ear pads and headband are lined with a thin, soft leatherette, which helps during gaming marathons. The headband is also fully adjustable to fit your head. There’s no 3.5mm jack on this headset, so Bluetooth is your only option in terms of connectivity. One side of the ear pad is attached with a power button and a volume dial to tweak the sound. A micro-USB slot is also provided for charging, which is somewhat disappointing given its price tag and the widespread adoption of USB-C over the last few years.

The best parts of Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition

The Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition is cut out for sweaty gaming sessions or movie marathons. The headset won’t run dry out in the middle of a competitive game for hours if you’ve charged it 100%, which is one of the best parts of this headset. Razer estimates battery life to be roughly 50 hours, with the lighting off, and those estimates aren’t far off from the reality. With the LED light on, it lasts around 20-25 hours depending on volume levels.

The headset automatically goes off when it’s inactive to save battery. If you’re keeping the lights off, you should be able to squeeze in multiple long sessions across a week without having to charge it. However, many users like the bright RGB, so it’d likely grow on you. Even with the lights on, Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition will hang tough before requiring a recharge. It takes about two hours to charge it up entirely and includes a matching quartz-colored micro-USB cable.

The Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition is carried by how good its predecessor is and shows just how important nailing the basics is. When buying a wireless headset, the signal range is usually one of the most important features. Newer versions provide faster data transfers, meaning a comfortable range to not miss out on Discord conversations or movie scenes while you grab a snack.

The Razer Kraken BT Kitty headset uses Bluetooth 5.0 for a stable, power-efficient connection, offering optimal performance and minimal latency for a better gaming experience. The Bluetooth will allow you to walk around 20 feet away from the connected device while still getting clear audio, which is a plus.

This headset successfully cuts the wired Kraken cord while maintaining its strong performance. It’s tough to pick out faults in the visual value of the Razer Kraken BT Kitty headset, but it still has enough up its sleeve to make it worth the high asking price. Aesthetics aside, the headsets offer clear sound quality at a distance. It does not have ANC but the sound quality is pretty good, all things considered. Its custom-tuned 40mm drivers provide clear trebles and midrange, with deep bass.

The Razer Kraken BT Kitty doesn’t reinvent the wheel or offer much on its sister models, so the gaming experience is pretty similar to the wired version. The audio is clean for story-focused games, but FPS players may struggle a tad bit with the subpar surround sound. While playing Valorant or CSGO, it doesn’t give a very strong sense of whether noise sources were coming from the front or rear, which can sometimes make a huge difference. Besides that, the headphones do a great job of transferring sound quickly while reducing latency.

Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition Review

The kitty headsets have many positive qualities, but people buy them for the RGB and the cat ears, as the wired headsets are pretty similar. The cat ears glow in vibrant colors along with the embossed Razer logo on both sides. The RGB lights can be controlled through Razer Chroma, whereas the Razer audio app helps customize settings. Using the latter, you may change the equalizer settings to amplified, enhanced bass, enhanced clarity, vocal, default, or custom. The applications are easy to use and allow for maximum personalization.

Razer Kraken Kitty’s microphone isn’t its strongest suit

This headset is cute, portable, and durable, but the Razer Kraken Kitty BT Edition isn’t going to get a perfect review.

The Razer Kraken Kitty’s microphone is likely its weakest feature. While it surely works for casual Discord calls and in-game callouts, it’s not a microphone you’d want to use for your streaming and video recordings. You get two internal beamforming mics in the product, so your voice should sound decent but for those wanting to create content with the headset, it’s not up to scratch. That’s a letdown considering the hefty price tag.

Besides the microphone, the ears being undetachable is also a con. The wireless Bluetooth headset comes in quartz color, which may not be the top choice for many but still, detachable ears might have made them less loud for public use. The lightweight headset is perfect for travel, but the ears may cause hassle in packing.

What to buy if not Razer Kraken Kitty BT Edition?

In 2022, there are plenty of wireless headset options but, they quickly shrink if you’re specifically looking for a similar quartz color.

The HyperX Cloud MIX is your best option as it has everything Kraken has to offer and more. It’s pink and white, wireless, and has 3.5mm ports. It also has a detachable braided cable with in-line audio control, a built-in mic, and a detachable boom mic. It’s considerably more expensive than the Razer Kraken, but has more features and a number of color options. For those who just need the cat ears, there are clip-on alternatives.

If you’re willing to compromise on the BT, then other models of Razer Kraken headphones are available. Depending on the model, these have different extra features and varied price points.
