Alberto “neptuNo” González Molinillo has announced on Twitter that he will not be playing for Spain in the Overwatch World Cup in September.
NeptuNo stated that he would be taking a break from professional Overwatch because he wanted time to see friends and focus on becoming a better player for the Overwatch League in Season 2.
Originally, neptuNo was announced as one of the starting support players for team Spain. However, on Wednesday he announced that he was burned out from Season 1 and wanted to focus on having fun in the game without the pressure of being on stage.
At the end of Season 1, neptuNo suffered from a persistent illness. It started with a kidney stone that lasted from the beginning of playoffs through just before the grand finals. Along with that, he dealt with tonsillitis and a high fever on the second day of the playoffs against the Boston Uprising. He also cited sleep and stomach problems.
NeptuNo told team Spain about a month ago that he would not be participating in the World Cup and thanked them for everything. He said he’d be watching from home “and cheering for my country and players I respect a lot.”
NeptuNo is a support player for the Philadelphia Fusion. He has hinted at plans to return to the team for Season 2.
