MagiFelix carries Astralis to second LEC win over FC Schalke 04

Astralis secured its second win in the 2021 LEC Spring Split after taking down FC Schalke 04, with new mid laner Carl “MagiFelix” Boström showing how well he’s capable of playing.

An unexpected win over Schalke 04 didn’t just give Astralis a much-needed win in the LEC, but also strengthened MagiFelix’s presence on the team as he steps in for Erlend “Nukeduck” Holm, who is taking a break due to personal reasons. The new Swedish mid laner carried on Corki and ended up being the clear MVP of the game.

It was exciting for many to finally see MagiFelix on the LEC stage after competing in the European regional scene in 2020. Luckily, MagiFelix had a debut with Astralis which is worth writing home about. Even though Corki is a fairly unorthodox pick in the current meta, MagiFelix made him work and look extremely strong.

The game started out slow for Astralis, but with solid scaling in the composition, this wasn’t a worry. Astralis was relaxed in the early laning phase, but then turned up the tempo as Nikolay “Zanzarah” Akatov pulled off good ganks on Skarner.

With Zanzarah completely-out jungling Schalke’s Erbek “Gilius” Demir, Astralis got to showcase clean macro play without giving Schalke any chance of a comeback. This clean play is something Astralis fans longed for during the first weeks of the season and now it’s finally showing. The heavy control of the game resulted in a 20-minute baron buff, which was more than enough for Astralis to secure a clean victory.

The young team ended the game after just 29 minutes with 13 kills to Schalke’s four. The whole team showed rock-solid play, but MagiFelix definitely stood out. He ended the game with a five kills and three assists on Corki, which is more than anyone could have asked for in his debut match.

The match leaves Schalke with its first loss in five games, putting them at a 5-3 record. Schalke is still sitting at the top of the leaderboard, but the loss to Astralis puts them on much shakier ground. It also shows that Schalke still needs some consistency before being considered a serious contender.

Astralis already looks like a team with renewed confidence and will look to carry on the momentum against Misfits Gaming on February 13.
