LPL and Nike unveil new team jersey designs for 2020
The LPL and Nike have revealed the new team kits
for the 2020 LPL Spring season.
Earlier this year, Nike became the official shoe and clothing provider for the teams competing in the LPL, the highest level of pro League of Legends play in China. At the moment, 16 organization take part in the competition, and two more are set to join next year.
The reveal took place before the regional gauntlet final where Invictus Gaming took the win and qualified for the 2019 World Championship. At the Mercedes-Benz Arena, one player from each team walked the stage wearing the new team jerseys.
The base design is a wide V-neck with a chevron pattern on the chest and the team and Nike’s logo. Each jersey was designed using the team’s individual colors.
Top Esports, Royal Never Give Up, Invictus Gaming, FunPlus Phoenix, and Edward Gaming got this special treatment. The patterns used for these five teams were based on the teams’ identities, and they also includes additional details on the sleeves and a unique totem above the jock tag.
FunPlus’ jersey was inspired by the phoenix, as the chevron pattern was based on the feathers of this mythological animal. The totem is a phoenix that combines the multiple interpretations of the creature in Eastern and Western culture.
RNG’s jersey took inspiration from the royal robes worn by Chinese emperors. The totem is one of the 12 symbols on the emperor’s robe. The chevron pattern is Nike’s take on a dragon skin, and combined with the details on the neck and sleeves, it celebrates RNG’s resilience.
The first thing that stands out on Invictus’ jersey is the golden star above the team’s logo. It represents the world championship title earned by the team in 2018. The chevron pattern was inspired by angel wings, as this concept was already used by Riot Games when they develop the 2018 championship skins for the team.
FunPlus, RNG, and Invictus will wear their new jerseys at the World Championship, while the rest of the teams will have to wait until 2020. The brand new Nike x LPL team kits will be available for purchase on October 1.
