Earlier this year, an anonymous 4chan account made some bold predictions for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

They predicted that a Hollow Knight Mii Sword Fighter was coming and that spirits from Seiken Densetsu 3, also known as Trials of Mana 3, were in the works. They also revealed that a League of Legends champion would be joining the roster as part of the second Fighter Pass. Well, that was back in January and has since been cast aside as a wild rumor. But it seems that the League of Legends champion leak might be true after all, bringing the rumor back into the spotlight.

Tomorrow, a Trials of Mana 3 Spirit Event will be coming to Smash Ultimate, meaning that one of the three “leaks” has now been proven accurate. This crossover comes as a surprise, since Square Enix has been a bit cagey with their video game properties in the past. So now that such an unlikely rumor has been proven true, fans are again speculating the possibility of a League of Legends champion becoming a DLC fighter.

But why would a League of Legends champion be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Well, according to the 4chan leaker, the reason is that League of Legends is coming to console and mobile. If League of Legends: Wild Rift becomes available on Nintendo Switch, the likelihood of the crossover is even more of a possibility. Riot is also working on a Leauge of Legends fighting game, first announced at EVO 2019. This is another reason a League of Legends champion may find themselves joining the battle on a console.

Is Ahri the League of Legends champion to be in Smash Ultimate?

The orginal leaker didn’t outright say who would be coming to Smash Ultimate, but the 4chan post included an image of Ahri. They said they’d place their bets on her being the champion that ends up as DLC. The Nine-Tailed Fox is a mage who would probably be a projectile fighter in Smash due to her orbs and other long-range damage-dealing spells. Spirit Rush, where she dashes forward and fires essence bolts, is another interesting move that’d work well in Ultimate.

While some other well-known leakers have taken on the challenge of looking into the rumor, nothing has been confirmed just yet. Meanwhile, League of Legends fans will just have to speculate on which champions would make the most sense in Ultimate.

Fans noted that Vi would be easy to implement as a heavy fighter. Lux is another champion being thrown around as a hopeful DLC. She would be a projectile fighter and Recall would easily translate into her Up B. Smash is also sword-heavy, making Aatrox a popular pick.

So far, only one Smash Ultimate fighter has been revealed for the new fighter pass: an ARMS character. The specific ARMS character will be revealed in June. That leaves five open slots that have yet to be announced. All the characters should be released by December 31, 2021, with each new fighter being announced every few months.
