Joker and Harley Quinn come to PUBG
DC Comics’ most iconic clowns are coming to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, but fans aren’t laughing.
The previously teased skins based on the Suicide Squad versions of The Joker and Harley Quinn have officially launched, and they carry a massive price tag. While individual components can be had for as little as $3, the full sets cost a whopping $19.99 and $24.99, respectively. No gameplay features have been added and the skins are not part of a larger Suicide Squad or DC Extended Universe event.
In a vacuum, PUBG teaming up with DC Comics and Warner Bros. to deliver licensed skins based on a major motion picture would be a big deal. Unfortunately, the partnership has already been overshadowed by similar offerings from rival battle royale title Fortnite.
Earlier this year, Fortnite delivered the “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup,” a gameplay mode based on Avengers: Infinity War that offered players the opportunity to equip the titular gauntlet to become the villain Thanos. Unlike the skins in PUBG, this feature was offered to players free of charge and actually coincided with the movie’s cinematic release.
What’s more, this news comes just days after the announcement that Fortnite was partnering with the NFL to offer players the opportunity to dress their avatars in the uniforms of their favorite pro football teams.
While the Suicide Squad skins generally underwhelmed both in terms of their price and quality, the news is still intriguing. There’s no shortage of gun-toting heroes and villains in the DC comics universe and it’s easy to wonder if other characters might be added to the game in the future.
