JD Gaming and DAMWON Gaming are clashing on day one of the 2020 World Championship. This highly anticipated match will offer a glimpse into the current state of the LCK and LPL squads.

Hailing from the LPL, JDG is one of the big favorites to take the title of world champion, and it’s all because of Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok. Kanavi is rated as the best jungler in the event field and is the key to JDG’s recent success. Many junglers in the LPL have tried to slow him down to no avail. Kanavi is an unstoppable force on Summoner’s Rift and the player that DAMOWN must target.

Jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu must accomplish three things at the same time: scout Kanavi, counter jungle Kanavi, and influence his lanes. It seems an almost impossible goal. When a jungler is forced to shadow the opponent, it usually means they spend less time enabling their laners. On top of that, the current state of the meta doesn’t really favor farming junglers.

Unless DAMWON has a plan to counter JDG everywhere else on the map, the LCK team could find itself on a difficult spot.

JDG vs DAWMON Gaming: rookies versus veterans

One important difference between these two teams is the agency of the players. This is the second time that DAMWON attends the World Championship, while JDG is a first-timer in the event. As proved by MAD Lions, nerves can take down even the strongest of teams.

The international experience might give DAMWON the edge over JDG, but it’s not a strong enough win condition to rule JDG out.

DAMWON gets the edge over JDG

On Winners.bet, DAMWON is favored to win its first match at Worlds with a solid 1.68 over JDG’s 2.12. Despite the advantages that JDG might have over DAMWON, the Korean team is the current LCK champion. JDG fell against TOP Esports with a 3-2 result, leaving the fans wondering if JDG has something to offer more than a superstar jungler.
