The next Call of Duty title is getting a grandiose reveal inside of Warzone.

After weeks of leaks and much teasing from Infinity Ward, Call of Duty Vanguard has an official reveal date set for August 19. The next Call of Duty franchise title will be revealed for the first time inside Warzone. All players can attend the in-game reveal event for free as long as their Warzone account is in good standing.

The official Call of Duty YouTube channel posted a brief teaser for Vanguard, showing four different scenes each connected by different hidden faces. Those four people could be the protagonists of Vanguard. The teaser ended with a date for the worldwide premier of Vanguard on August 19.

Fans will need to log into Call of Duty Warzone on August 19 and await further instructions. The reveal itself could take many forms, and no specific time was mentioned in the teaser. It might be a playable level from Vanguard made in Warzone to give players a peek at the game. It could just as easily be a simple trailer that plays on the main menu. Either way, there was no time specified in the trailer. That implies that it will differ from Fortnite’s timed in-game announcements.

What is Call of Duty Vanguard?

Early promotion material paints Call of Duty Vanguard as a return to the series’ roots. Vanguard will mostly likely take place across the four theaters of World War II. The teaser showed combat in an Eastern European city, a German forest, a flaming desert, and a beach. Those last two could refer to North Africa and the Pacific islands, respectively. The original Call of Duty trilogy and several later additions to the franchise have all used World War II as a base, making this familiar territory for series veterans.

The studio behind Call of Duty Vanguard is Sledgehammer Games, the same development team that made Advanced Warfare and World War II. Call of Duty Warzone was primarily developed by Raven Software with input from Infinity Ward. Warzone will likely continue to receive updates after Call of Duty Vanguard’s launch, but Black Ops Cold War may well cease post-launch development once Vanguard comes out in 2022.
