How to use Infernal Iron for better loot in Baldur’s Gate 3
There’s an unassuming item in Baldur’s Gate 3 that you might pass by if you don’t know its worth, but here’s how Infernal Iron can get you amazing loot if you can hold onto it long enough.
Infernal Iron is exactly what it sounds like, iron that has been harvested from the Nine Hells, the home of Dungeons & Dragons’ devils. It can be found throughout Baldur’s Gate 3. It doesn’t have a clear use at first, but if you hold onto it, you can unlock some truly fantastic gear.
Where do you find Infernal Iron?
You’ll only need two pieces of Infernal Iron to collect the two sets of armor that will be available from it. These pieces won’t be claimable until Act 2 and Act 3, but you can pick up the Infernal Iron early and be set for the game. The Blighted Village, Shattered Sanctum, and Zhentarim Hideout locations are the easiest places to find it. It can also be found in Reithwin and Grymforge in the Underdark during Act 2.
This article will contain spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3 Acts 1, 2, and 3.
How do you get Helldusk Armor?
You don’t need all of the Infernal Iron, so just grab two sets of the item so that you can hand one in for each of the armor sets when the moment arises. The first chance you’ll have to hand in Infernal Iron for armor is during Act 2 at the town called Last Light. There’s a forge on the right side of town as you approach from the bridge, and in there will be a familiar Tiefling. Dammon is a Tiefling blacksmith that you can meet in the Emerald Enclave grove in Act 1. He’ll be back here, smithing away when you arrive. If you talk to him, he’ll mention wanting to smith with unusual substances, and you can hand over your Infernal Iron This will get you the Flawed Helldusk Armor, an excellent set of Heavy Armor that will serve you well throughout Act 2 and even early Act 3.
Can Infernal Iron help Karlach?
If you’ve been advancing the Barbarian companion character Karlach’s personal story quest, you’ll also need more iron to help repair the engine that has replaced her heart. If this is the case, then you’ll be able to use the item at both Last Light and later on in Baldur’s Gate itself. Dammon will make more progress on Karlach’s unfortunate condition each time you speak to him, but you’ll need enough for both this and the armor if you want both.
That’s all you need to know about the mysterious substance and what you can do with it.
