The Warhammer 40,000: Darktide closed beta is happening this weekend, giving fans a chance to play Fatshark’s latest first-person, horde-fighting venture into Games Workshop’s properties.
Warhammer 40,000 Darktide is having a closed beta from October 14-16 where fans can get their first taste of the grimdark FPS. Here’s what you need to know about what Darktide is and how you can sign up for the Darktide closed beta.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a cooperative first-person shooter which pits the players against hordes of enemies as they make their way through a variety of missions in the hive city of Tertium. You’ll play with three other players, cooperating to make your way from one end of the mission to the other. The closed beta will have four of Darktide’s eventual missions available for fans to play through during its testing phase.
Players will pick from one of four classes:
The Ogryn is an enormous abhuman mutant made to function as the group’s frontline and tank. The Psyker is a magic-wielding psychically active class, able to cast spells to aid their team. The Zealot is an all-in DPS class, focusing on being up close and personal with the enemy, while the Veteran will focus on the new shooting-focused gameplay loop being added to Darktide.
The closed beta that is launching this weekend is still available for last-minute entries. All that fans have to do is go to the Darktide website and sign up, offering a little bit of information about their hardware and internet to help Fatshark know how the game performs on different systems. A video from Fatshark discloses all the details fans need to know about the upcoming shooter.

Fans will be able to customize their own character in Darktide in the beta, rather than choosing one of a few pre-designed characters like Vermintide. The lead combat designer notes that fans coming from shooters should be prepared for a melee gameplay loop, and that fans coming from Vermintide can expect a lot more shooting than Darktide’s fantasy predecessor.
The Darktide closed beta will go live at 4:00 am PST on October 14, 2022 before Darktide’s eventual launch on November 30.
