How to get Destiny 2 free to play on PC, Xbox, PlayStation
Hundreds of thousands of new Guardians have joined Destiny 2 since the release of the free-to-play New Light edition.
Destiny 2 New Light is a free-to-play version of Bungie’s loot-based first-person shooter released for the PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. New Light gives players access to all of Destiny 2’s major areas, though many sections within restricted. New Light players have full access to multiplayer and to the majority of the game’s single-player content.
The Destiny 2 free to play system does not include most of the expansions or any of the games’ downloadable content, though fans can still sign up for the Bungie newsletter to participate in special giveaways. If you want to give Destiny 2 a try or just mess around for a weekend with your friends, here’s how to get Destiny 2 free to play on every major gaming platform.
How to download Destiny 2 free to play on PC
Destiny 2 New Light is only available for PC through the
Steam store. The new version is just called Destiny 2 on PC. Scroll down to the purchasing options and there should be three selections. The one simply titled Destiny 2 should have a free to play tag attached to it. The two major expansion packs, The Witch Queen and Beyond Light, both have a standard price tag of $40. Keep in mind that the Destiny 2 New Light edition doesn’t include any downloadable content from Destiny 2’s multiple expansions.
How to download Destiny 2 free to play on Xbox
Xbox players will have an even easier time downloading the new free to play version of Destiny 2. If you pay for an Xbox Game Pass subscription, Destiny 2 and all of its expansions are already included with your monthly fee. If not, head to the
online Xbox store. There are five versions of Destiny 2 available for purchase with varying levels of DLC included. The bottom version should be listed for free. Destiny 2 is available on both generations of Xbox hardware.
How to download Destiny 2 free to play on PlayStation
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners can get their hands on the interstellar co-op shooter for free by heading over to
the PlayStation store. Destiny 2 New Light is listed as its own game on PlayStation separately from the expansion packs. At the time of writing, all Destiny 2 versions are priced at steep discounts to celebrate the release of the free-to-play version. You can also purchase the game’s premium currency directly through the PlayStation store.
