Baldur’s Gate 3 is taking over the gaming community, and it’s a genuinely massive CRPG, but how long is the adventure going to be for most players?
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a single-player and multi-player classic RPG based on the world and system of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. It’s set in the fantasy world of Faerun, originally invented by author Ed Greenwood. You take control of a party of unusual allies who are all thrown into the same boat when eldritch alien-esque creatures known as Illithids kidnap them. It’s a huge, in-depth RPG with thousands upon thousands of hours of possible gameplay. But for most players going through their first Baldur’s Gate playthrough, how many hours should they expect?
This may seem like an absolutely massive number, but a Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough can easily be between 90-100 hours of gameplay. The world is fleshed out with characters, interactions, and branching story paths exceeding almost any other RPG in the genre. Most estimations put it at 100 hours of gameplay, but a focused playthrough once the game becomes more well-known could likely slash much of that time town. The game takes players from level one to level 12 and is divided into three acts, each of which will cover loosely four levels worth of progression. However, due to how experience points work in 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons, later levels take much longer to acquire.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – Official Announcement Trailer
The truth about Baldur’s Gate 3 is that you could easily spend far longer if you truly wanted to explore every quest line, see every story to conclusion, and satiate your inner completionist. Baldur’s Gate 3 seems to have set a new bar for the depth and worldbuilding of single-player classic RPGs, and the absolutely massive playtime reflects that.
