Hogwarts Legacy is nearing the greatness of 2022 juggernaut Elden Ring after earning $850 million in the first two weeks of release.
Based on J.K Rowling’s enchanted world with Harry Potter at the center, Hogwarts Legacy has rejuvenated magic worldwide. Potterheads were always looking to relive their childhood, and the new open-world game is the perfect opportunity. It’s not a surprise that Hogwarts Legacy is already 2023’s best game, with numbers to speak for its greatness.
According to the official Warner Bros. press release, Hogwarts Legacy has sold 12 million copies in just two weeks.
After setting a new viewership record on Twitch, Hogwarts Legacy owns the market. According to WB, it has made a revenue of $850 million by selling out 12 million copies during the initial release days.
“Our development team at Avalanche delivered an amazing, high-quality Wizarding World experience that truly fulfills the fan fantasy of life at Hogwarts, and our publishing teams have executed a globally impactful launch campaign.” Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav said during the Q4 earnings call.
The company also revealed that the game’s release has positively impacted the Wizard World website. There was 300% higher traffic over the regular monthly unique visitor average for the first ten days of February. Furthermore, in February alone, the game topped over 267 million hours played, breaking WB company records with 280 million hours played to date.
Basically, Hogwarts Legacy has been an overall success for WB.
All of this comes after the trans controversy regarding Hogwarts Legacy. The author J.K Rowling wasn’t necessarily involved in the development process, but she will benefit from the proceeds. For this reason, the trans community had boycotted the game, but it has only added to its popularity. Even if the game was mediocre for non-Potterheads, they tried it just out of curiosity.
Now, Hogwarts Legacy is locking horns with games that made history, like Elden Ring. It’s also worth noting that it is yet to be released on PlayStation4 and Xbox One on July 25, 2023.
