Kirby fans were left in shock when Nintendo of America’s Twitter account suddenly announced that the young Star Warrior is getting a brand new game with Kirby’s Dream Buffet.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land was the first 3D platformer starring the lovable pink food lover, and it became one of the most successful Nintendo Switch games of 2022. It now appears Nintendo isn’t done celebrating the iconic character. Kirby is getting an entirely new multiplayer game later this year. Here’s everything we know about it.
Kirby’s Dream Buffet is a lighthearted multiplayer game that sees up to four people playing as a rolling Kirby, colored either pink, yellow, blue, or green. There are multiple levels all with different challenges for the four Kirby players to complete, including races and puzzles. A winner is announced after each challenge.
Not much else has been officially revealed about Kirby’s Dream Buffet, but it’s already being compared to Fall Guys and Tilt’n’Tumble. Kirby Tilt’n’Tumble is a puzzle game for the Game Boy Color that was released in Japan in 2000, then in North America in 2001.
That game had a simple plot: Dream Land has lost its stars, and it’s possibly King Dedede’s doing. Kirby is determined to get the stars back. The unique game has a series of accelerometers that control Kirby, meaning players must tilt the Game Boy in different directions to guide Kirby through each level. The goal is to collect stars in each level as you traverse the map within a time limit.
Nintendo has not yet released an official date for Kirby’s Dream Buffet, but it should be coming out very soon. In the announcement on Twitter, Nintendo stated that the game will come out in the summer of 2022.
The newest Kirby game is a new exclusive game for the Nintendo Switch. It will only be available via the Nintendo eShop, meaning there won’t be physical copies at retail stores or online. The game can’t be pre-ordered at the moment, and will only be available digitally.
Yes, Kirby’s Dream Buffet is meant to be played via multiplayer with up to four players joining in together. It’s not yet clear how exactly the multiplayer will work on the Switch, and whether it’s solely for online play or will also have local couch co-op.
