Viego is only a few days away from hitting the live LoL servers and he is already available for testing on the Public Beta Environment (PBE).

The Ruined King is finally entering League of Legends and his abilities have exceeded most fan’s expectations. Viego will bring a completely new mechanic as he is able to possess enemies champions that he helps take down. This means that players won’t only play Viego, but also potentially every other champion in the game when picking the Ruined King. Here’s a rundown of his abilities.

Viego abilities

Passive – Sovereign’s Domination

Sovereign’s Domination allows Viego to possess those enemy champions that he helps to kill, and he also heals for a portion of their max health. During the possession, Viego will get the items, attacks, and non-ultimate abilities from the slain enemy. Viego will also gain a free cast of his own ultimate, Heartbreaker. To top it off, Viego gets bonus movement speed when moving toward enemy champions while possessing an enemy.

Q – Blade of the Ruined King

Blade of the Ruined King has been known as an item so far, but now it’s also a part of Viego’s kit. Viego’s attacks passively deal a percentage of the target’s current health as bonus on-hit damage. When Viego attacks an enemy he has recently hit with an ability, the attack will strike twice. The second strike of this will siphon health from the target instead of just dealing regular damage.

The active is a simple forward stab with Viego’s blade, damaging all enemies hit.

W – Spectral Maw

Viego charges up and dashes forward when using Spectral Maw. When released, Viego hurls a blast of mist that stuns and damages the first enemy hit. The stun duration and range will increase with the charge time, but the damage and dash range won’t.

E – Harrowed Path

Viego creates a wave of black mist around a nearby wall. While Viego stands inside the mist, he will become camouflaged and will gain attack speed and movement speed.

R – Heartbreaker

Viego’s ultimate, Heartbreaker, is an execute that will discard any bodies he is currently possessing. Viego will teleport forward, attacking the enemy champion in range with the lowest percent health. Viego deals bonus damage based on the target’s missing health. Other enemies in range are knocked away.

Riot set to hotfix Viego on LoL PBE

Even though Viego has only been available for testing a couple of days, Riot is already looking to apply a hotfix. Riot will target all of Viego’s abilities in an attempt to make him more balanced before he exits the PBE. The most significant changes will be to his Harrowed Path, which already looks like a nightmare of an ability for Riot to balance. The ability will now get a bigger camouflage reveal to better help enemies when Viego enters stealth.

Viego will also get a small nerf on his Heartbreaker and Blade of the Ruined King to put him in a more balanced state. This likely won’t be the last of the balance changes to Viego before he hits the live servers.

Finally, Riot will also be fixing some bugs during this hotfix. So far, players have discovered several bugs with Viego, such as him getting an insane amount of attack speed when killing Kog’Maw.

When will Viego be released in LoL?

As the first new champion in 2021, Viego is hitting the live servers very soon. He is set to go live on patch 11.2, which will be released on January 21. Viego likely won’t be available right off the bat but should be enabled on the live servers a few days after the patch.
