FunPlus Phoenix, Splyce advance to LoL Worlds 2019 knockout stage
FunPlus Phoenix and Splyce are heading to the Knockout Stage at the 2019 League of Legends World Championship after an intense tiebreaker.
FunPlus and Splyce had to play an extra game to decide the final seeding in Group B. As anticipated on
WIN.gg’s Pick’Em predictions, in the end FunPlus came out victorious and took first seed.
Group B was closer than many expected, with J Team being the surprise of the group. The LMS representative made its region proud by taking wins over both FunPlus and Splyce in the first half of the Group B round robin. That momentum sputtered over time though, as the LEC and LPL teams recovered down the stretch.
FunPlus versus Splyce, one last round
The final battle in Berlin between FunPlus and Splyce was incredibly close, and was ultimately decided by small mistakes.
FunPlus is finally looking like the team everyone feared before the start of the tournament. The LPL’s first seed struggled to find their footing and got overly creative during drafts. The unorthodox picks in the mid lane ultimately hurt FunPlus, forcing them to fight their way back into contention for a spot in the knockout stage.
Splyce has come a long way since the LEC Summer Split. The European team shined through the play-in stage and kept the momentum going at the main event. Splyce is still looking like a strong candidate for a top-four placement at Worlds 2019. The team has proven that working together is the key to success at Worlds.
FunPlus and Splyce are certainly the best teams in Group B. Even when they stumbled against J Team, they managed to learn from their mistakes and play better from there. The final day of Group B showcased the strength of the junglers Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang and Andrei “Xerxe” Dragomir who had stellar performances.
