Fnatic get revenge on Origen for LEC Spring Playoffs upset
Revenge is a dish best served cold and Fnatic proved it on Friday.
The LEC elite got a bit of payback on Origen for the squad’s upset win in the semifinals of the LEC 2019 Spring Playoffs. Though Fnatic entered a considerable favorite over Origen, the team undoubtedly felt an extra bit of satisfaction taking this win.
The game started in unorthodox fashion for Fnatic with top laner Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau and mid laner Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek switching lanes in an effort to capitalize on champion matchups.
This was followed by some aggressive maneuvers from Fnatic, who tasked jungler Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen with hunting down champions. This paid off in the kills department at the expense of Origen mid laner Erlend “Nukeduck” Våtevik Holm but it didn’t pay off in a more literal sense as Origen pulled ahead in gold. Origen leveraged that advantage to stay in the game even while Fnatic’s offense thrived.
Fnatic bridged the financial gap a bit with Martin “Rekkles” Larsson soaking up farm in the bottom lane, but kept the pressure high thanks to Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov’s Rakan.
Origen turned up their offensive output in the midgame with some pickoffs of their own but it wasn’t enough to make Fnatic stumble. Fnatic kept playing fast, explosive League of Legends while Origen stuck to their methodical guns.
In a different meta, Origen’s tortoise may have been able to drag things out and topple the Fnatic hare but here, Fnatic’s style proved to be more effective. At 29 minutes, Fnatic secured the baron buff and aced Origen. With nothing to defend their nexus, Fnatic claimed the win.
Now 3-0 on the season, Fnatic is heading into a potentially tricky match against a FC Schlake 04 that is coming off a victory over Splyce. Origen will look to get back in the win column at the expense of Misfits Gaming.
