Exploring the links between MOBA games and relationships

Years ago, if you asked someone what “MOBA” was, they probably wouldn’t have any idea what you were talking about. But as gaming becomes more mainstream, more and more people are getting into MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) games.

While gaming is typically thought of as a “boy’s club,” that is quickly changing, with girls continuing to make up more of the gaming community every day. If you’re one of the lucky men to find one of these gamer girls at Cupid.com or elsewhere, that means you have a virtually unlimited amount of date options!

An unusual date idea

Using dating services or going out to dinner are traditional dating methods. Gaming dates aren’t traditional whatsoever, but in-game dates are a real thing! Although you and your boo may physically be in the same place, why not add some excitement to your date by playing your favorite game together? In-game gaming means you can take your date anywhere while also enjoying some healthy competition, whether it’s couch co-op, LAN party, or arcade battle.

Competition is a test of a relationship’s strength

Are you a sore loser? If so (or if your partner is), then gaming as a date is a great test for your relationship. While working together towards a common goal has its advantages, so does competing against each other.

If your partner is OK with losing to you, then that means they value you as a person over their in-game performance. However, if your partner becomes rude and snappy after losing to you, or even rage quits if it happens, this may be a sign of potential problems in the future.

There’s nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, so if your partner takes something this small to heart, you may want to start reconsidering this relationship. On the other hand (assuming you have the patience to do so), this could also be something you work on together!

Building relationships while beating bosses

Competing against each other can definitely be fun, but other times it’s fun to play against the world instead. Depending on your choice of game, you and your partner may consider teaming up with others during gameplay or simply relying on each other to win. However you decide to do it, it’s important that you maintain active communication throughout your gaming time in order to succeed.

This is actually the same way you should run your relationship: communication is free! Having victories (or defeats) together as a couple is a great way to build your relationship in a casual and carefree manner.

You will have unforgettable memories

Video games tend to stick with us for life and influence more than that – even society as a whole is prone to them. Chances are, you probably remember the first game you ever played. You can create more great memories while playing with your partner, whether or not you win!

Being together in the same room while gaming provides a certain sense of intimacy, but using voice chat is also an option if you find yourselves apart for a bit. No matter how close or how far away you are from each other, MOBA games provide a fun way to spend a bit of time with your partner, so pick out a game and jump online together!
