Esports Awards caster finalists include PapaSmithy and MonteCristo
The finalists for The Esports Awards’ caster of the year award have been announced with the
public vote going live. This years’ finalists include casters of League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and more.
The twelve casters that made the list are: Matthew “Sadokist” Trivett, Indiana “Froskurinn” Juniper, Christopher “PapaSmithy” Smith, Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles, Henry “HenryG” Greer, Clint “Maven” Evans, Clayton “CaptainFlowers” Raines, Matt “Mr X” Morello, Kaci “Kaci” Aitchison, Ben “Benson” Bowe, Mitch “Uber” Leslie, and Jack “CouRage” Dunlop.
Froskurinn, PapaSmithy, and CaptainFlowers cast LoL tournaments, each casting from different regions. Fans cherish PapaSmithy as LoL Champions Korea’s best color commentator, although he has now taken on a new role as general manager of 100 Thieves. Froskurinn is a color commentator for the LEC, while CaptainFlowers casts the CS. All of the LoL finalists have also worked at previous international tournaments, including the World Championship and Mid-Season Invitational.
Finalists from the CSGO scene include Sadokist and HenryG, who have both been working at prestigious events for the last couple of years and are often paired together. Most recently, both casters have worked at StarLadder Berlin Major 2019 and Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2019.
The only Dota 2 caster who made the list is Kaci, backstage host and interviewer for Dota 2’s annual championship, The International. Even though she had no knowledge of the game when she first started hosting, she has been on TI’s main stage for the past seven years and the community learned to love her.
Once a popular LCS, LCK, and LoL Worlds caster, MonteCristo has been casting Overwatch games as a Blizzard’s hire over the past two years. MonteCristo is one of the casters of Overwatch League and the Overwatch World Cup. He is joined by Uber, who has also worked with other titles in the past but is now focused on commentating the Overwatch League.
Mr X also joins their lineup, having worked with Overwatch since the 2017 World Cup. Previous to joining the OWL, Mr X was a well-known COD caster, as well as a coach.
MonteCristo and Uber were finalists for esports caster of the year in 2018, as was Maven, who then took the award. Maven is a COD caster and the commissioner of the CoD World League. Maven and Benson, the second COD caster that made it to the awards’ finalists lists, have been working with COD publisher Activision since 2015 and have since been casting all of COD’s biggest tournaments.
CouRage used to be a COD caster at Major League Gaming, but in 2018 decided to focus on his Twitch stream and has become a popular esports personality. He joined 100 Thieves as a content creator in May of this year.
The Esports Awards ceremony, where the category winner will be announced, is happening on November 16 and will be broadcast live.
