Doran and Chovy to join DragonX after Griffin controversy

Two fromer Griffin players, top laner Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon and mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, have joined DragonX. The organization has also announced that trainees Ryu “Keria” Min-seok and Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon have both been promoted to the 2020 starting roster.

Doran and Chovy have officially joined DragonX’s League of Legends team for the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea, Fomos reported on December 4. With the promotion of Keira as the support and Pyosik as the jungler, the roster is now complete. The four new players are joining bot laner Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu who has been on the roster since late 2018.

Griffin’s former players find new home under DX’s banner

Saying that Griffin’s 2019 roster was unlucky would be an understatement. Despite the overall success, a lot of drama surfaced around the team, showing the players were under unfair and exploitable contracts. As soon as they were released from their contracts, all of the players announced free agency and quickly found their new homes.

Chovy and Doran have shown great talent in their young careers to date. They’ve proven to be more than capable by finishing the 2019 LCK Summer in first place and qualified for the 2019 World Championship, where they were favorites in the eyes of some fans and analysts.

With a seventh-place finish in the LCK regular season, DragonX hasn’t been as triumphant, but is now coming back in 2020 with a much stronger roster.

The two new trainees look promising as well. Although without on-stage performance in their portfolio, both players are at the top of the Korean solo queue and are mechanically gifted. Combined with Deft’s veteran guile and the former Griffin players’ international experience, DragonX’s new starting roster looks promising.

If the team will be coached by Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho, who coached Doran and Chovy last season, is still unclear. Riot Games has an open investigation after cvMax was accused of being abusive during his time with Griffin. As it stands, three former Griffin members will continue working together in hopes for similar, if not better, results.
