Deltarune fans have something to celebrate this holiday season, as the release date for Chapter 3 and 4 just got massively closer overnight.

Indie darlings come and go, but Deltarune has maintained a massive degree of popularity despite its last release being over two years ago. Chapter 3 and 4 rank among the most anticipated indie releases of all time, but the development team has been largely quiet about its production. That has all changed with a Halloween newsletter written by Toby Fox that dropped a massive bomb on the community. Here are details on the change and when you can expect the new release date for Deltarune Chapter 3.

The statement was revealed by Toby Fox and the rest of the Deltarune development team through a public newsletter sent out on October 21, 2023 to both update fans and celebrate Halloween. In the newsletter, Fox explained that he has changed plans for the release date of Deltarune’s final three chapters.

Deltarune Chapter 4 and 4 release date changed

The original plan was to release Chapter 3, 4, and 5 all together in one bundle as a paid product. However, due to the long development process for Chapter 5, he and his team have chosen to release Chapter 3 and 4 together as a paid product without Chapter 5. This comes as development on the third installment wraps up and the fourth chapter becomes the company’s main focus.

Release date for Deltarune Chapter 3 and 4 could be soon

Based on the reveal of releasing without Chapter 5, the release date for Deltarune Chapter 3 and 4 will likely be sometime in mid to late 2024.

Our estimate is based on the development timeline hints from the newsletter. Fox was happy to report that Chapter 3 is essentially done, with a friend playing through the entire chapter with little criticism to offer. While there will likely be additional polish, the game is apparently feature-complete. Chapter 4 is still in progress, but significant work has apparently been done. Toby Fox had this to say about the workflow.

“Chapter 4 already has a very substantial amount of cutscenes and enemy work done. Also, I’ve hired a new producer whose entire job it will be to speed up the overall game development for future chapters,” he said.

With that in mind and the two years it took to get to now, it’s reasonable to suggest that the wait is around 75% over and the release should be around eight months from now. That estimate would put an exact date at June 30, 2024, though accurately estimating the release to the day is impossible. Regardless, expect an update about a Deltarune Chapter 3 and 4 release date sometime in mid 2024. There’s also a real chance the game will drop with zero warning.
