DAMWON Gaming is the 2020 LCK Summer Split champion and secured its pass to the 2020 World Championship.

DAMWON took down DragonX with a clean 3-0 sweep and secured top seeding in the LCK. The three-game series was a League of Legends masterclass and DAMWON confirmed itself as the strongest team in South Korea.

DAMWON goes for the unexpected strategy in LCK Finals

DAMWON’s top stars are jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, top laner Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon, and mid laner Heo “ShowMaker” Su. All narratives revolve around these three players, so DRX expected DAMWON to play through the solo lanes. Unfortunately for DRX, DAMWON came into the series with a different plan and played through the bottom lane, relying on ADC Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun and support Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee to keep the team afloat.

In game one, Ghost and BeryL delivered. Despite losing the solo lanes and the jungle, the bottom lane duo kept the team relevant. DRX had control over the early game, but one critical mistake around the dragon pit changed the fate of the entire series.

DRX got ready to secure the dragon, but DAMWON went all-in and pulled the trigger on this critical fight. DRX was caught out of position and didn’t respect Nuguri’s tankiness. From that point on, DAMWON took full control of the match and DRX didn’t stand a chance.

The situation didn’t improve for DRX in game two. ADC Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu on Ezreal made several costly mistakes in lane. From there, it was time for Ghost and BeryL shine once again, the bottom duo outclassed DRX and hit critical spikes early. Mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon did his best to help the team, but not even the prodigy could stand up to a snowballing DAMWON.

For game three, DAMWON was more than ready to seal the deal and went for comfort picks. ShowMaker picked Akali, Ghost played his iconic Draven opposite Deft’s Kalista, and BeryL returned to Pantheon duty. The game plan for DAMWON was clear, force skirmishes and give no breathing room to DRX.

True to his name, ShowMaker put on a show and secured a clean quadra kill to put the final nail in the coffin. Chovy kept DAMWON from winning the game after that play. In a desperate move, DRX attempted a Hail Mary and tried to get the baron.

DAMWON read the enemy’s intentions and settled around the baron pit. The goal wasn’t to steal the objective but to buy time and keep the DRX players from recalling. Nuguri used TP to get into the enemy base and with help from the minions, attacked the exposed Nexus turrets. Chovy managed to get back, but there was nothing that he could do to stop DAMWON.

DAMWON secured the win and the LCK’s first seed at LoL Worlds 2020. DRX also qualified for the event as the second seed. The third seed will be determined through the regional finals where KT Rolster, Afreeca Freecs, T1, and Gen.G are fighting for the spot.
