Cloud9 vs. Evil Geniuses: 2020 LCS Summer betting analysis

Evil Geniuses and its new roster will take on Cloud9 in week six in the 2020 LCS Summer Split.

Cloud9 is no longer undefeated in the LCS. The spring champion dropped its match against 100 Thieves in the biggest upset of the season so far. One defeat is all it took to make Cloud9 look vulnerable and teams are more than ready to make round two of the regular season count.

Evil Geniuses makes a drastic change

  • Top lane, Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon
  • Jungle, Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen
  • Mid lane, Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer
  • ADC, Bae “Bang” Jun-sik
  • Support, Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam

Ahead of week six, Evil Geniuses took the community by surprise with the signing of mid laner Goldenglue. The team announced its intentions of starting Goldenglue and Huni over Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro and Colin “Kumo” Zhao. Swapping solo laners this late in the split is a massive risk and after one game, it looks like it’s not paying off as Evil Geniuses might have hoped.

In a match against Team Liquid, Huni and Goldenglue had mediocre performances. Goldenglue was overeager, going for risky place at times where he had no business taking such risks. Huni on Karma had almost no impact on the game whatsoever. Other than claiming first blood, Huni did very little in the match.

EG swapped a dominant mid laner and a top laner that could absorb pressure for two pieces that just didn’t work. Of course, only one game is not enough of a sample. It’s odd that EG decided to test with roster moves in the same week it’s facing the top two teams in the league. Goldenglue and Huni were handed a difficult task, and it seems like it’s too much for them to handle.

Cloud9 grew too confident after LCS winning streak

  • Top lane, Eric “Licorice” Ritchie
  • Jungle, Robert “Blaber” Huang
  • Mid lane, Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer
  • ADC, Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen
  • Support, Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme

Cloud9 suffered from the “G2 syndrome” where a team gets too confident and believes it can get away with anything. The draft against 100 Thieves was experimental, to say the least. Cloud9 relied on the surprise factor and believe that if it pulled it off once, it could do it again. C9’s mistake was to underestimate the hunger to win from the 100 Thieves players.

Losing one game is not that big of a deal, but it gave the rest of the teams in the LCS a clear idea on how to defeat C9. The key is relentless aggression from level one, and targeting Blaber in the jungle. It’s easier said than done, and that’s the challenge for Evil Geniuses as it attempts to hand C9 its second defeat of the year.

Cloud9 the favorite to take down Evil Geniuses

Unless Evil Geniuses pulls off a miraculous performance, this match will go to Cloud9. On Winners.bet, C9 is favored to win with 1.18 over Evil Geniuses 4.15.

There’s a big gap between these teams, even before EG decided to swap its solo laners. At best, EG can aspire to look good and make some plays. C9 learned its lesson about going too crazy with drafts, so chances are it won’t repeat the same mistake.

Cloud9 and Evil Geniuses play at 4 PM CST.
